NYC + the Catskills

The perfect week: 4 nights in New York City and 3 nights in the Catskills. This mountain range in Upstate New York is quickly becoming the top choice for a city escape. As a year-round destination,

think morning hikes and long days by the lake during summer vs days on the slopes and cosying by the fire in winter.

Where to stay?

All enquiries are tailor-made to your likes and requirements when it comes to a hotel, but here are a few ideas...

"I want to be close to Central Park"

The Whitby Hotel

"It's my first visit to NYC"

The NoMad or Made Hotel

"I'll be eating and drinking"

The Ludlow, Public NY or The Mercer

"Over the bridge, please"

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge or The Wythe

"I want to feel like I live there

(in my dreams)"

The Greenwich Hotel

What to do?

I always try to personalise the itinerary based on your preferences but here's an example of which neighbourhoods fit well to explore in the same day...

The "first timers" itinerary

Day One: Brooklyn Bridge, Wall St and Financial District.

Stop at The Dead Rabbit for a drink!

Day Two: 9/11 Memorial, Battery Park, Staten Island public ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. From there head to Soho and walk up Broadway.

Day Three: Greenwich Village, brunch at Joseph Leonard, drink at the top of The Standard, The Highline, Chelsea Market, Union Square.

Day Four: Central Park, Top of The Rock/Rockefeller, 5th Ave, Grand Central Station, Empire State Building.

Day Five: do anything you've missed! Head to the grittier Lower East Side, walk through Chinatown and Little Italy.

THE CATSKILLS

How to get there?

From the city, rent a car - not only the easiest way but also a chance to snap pics of the dramatic views along the way. If you're not a driver, Amtrak run a service from Penn Station to the Catskills.

What to do?

With glistening lakes and winding rivers, on-the-water action is top choice during summer: wild swimming, kayaking and fishing. Off the water, hit the hiking routes, mountains or enjoy your surroundings at a local yoga class.

Where to stay?

Scribner’s Catskill Lodge, The Graham & Co, Hasbrouck House, Eastwind, The DeWitt Oak Hill
