February. Where to go?

-5 hours from the UK

MARRAKECH - when the relentless rain and cold has gotten too much here, sneak off to Marrakech where the weather can get up to a balmy 20°C in February. Stay in the Medina to be in the heart of the hustle and bustle, or retreat out to the Palmeraie which is still just a 20 min taxi ride into the Medina for a stroll around the souks, or on an evening for dinner.

Recommended hotels: Medina area - El Fenn (from £225 per night), Palmeraie area - Les Cinq Djellabas (from £205 per night)

SEVILLE - there's such an effortless romance to this city; winding, cobbled streets lined with orange trees, bars and restaurants with views over the Cathedral, it's mix of past cultures shown in the architecture, history, and of course, dance, it's a perfect city break.

Recommended hotel: Corral del Rey (from £160 per night)

NEW FOREST, UK - a little closer to home, but a wonderful part of the country to explore. Whether it's a (windy) walk on the beach, cycling, sailing, fishing, there is so much to do, or relax in the spa and then cosy up by the fire (most likely what I'd choose!).

Recommended hotels: Chewton Glen (from £395 per night) or Lime Wood (from £445 per night)

SRI LANKA - for me, it has everything (the reason I keep going back!). A country of smiles, it's such a warm and hospitable place to travel with an incredible amount to see and do. Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Dambulla make up the 'cultural triangle', not missing a climb up Sigiriya Rock too. Kandy and down to Nuwara Eliya make up the beautiful tea country, where you can pick your own tea and meander around the misty plantations. Depending what suits you, there is the chance to do a safari at Yala or Gal Oya, or head right down to the numerous beach spots that line the South Coast around to Galle.

Recommended itinerary: on request as it depends on what you are looking to focus on and how long you have. If you're heading over to the Maldives after Sri Lanka, skip the beaches and see the rest of the country.

NEW ZEALAND - the island of lakes, mountains, fjords, beaches, glaciers, vineyards (everything?). North Island you've got the cities to tick off as well as Bay of Islands, vineyards of Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay and absolutely not missing Lake Taupo. The South Island is where the drama starts, with epic mountains, Milford Sound (fjord) , adrenalin-mad Queenstown and some whale-watching in Kaikoura if the times right.

Recommended itinerary: it might be a small country but there is so much to see and do, I recommend at least 2 weeks. A detailed itinerary on request so I can tailor-make it to your exact needs.

SOUTHERN USA road trip - expect plenty of fried chicken, non-stop music and a lot of fun. It's a lovely time of year to visit this area of the US before it gets sticky hot a few months later. Eat Po' Boys in New Orleans, honky-tonk in Nashville, whitewater raft in the Mountains before reaching the beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. Get practising your Southern draaawl.

Recommended itinerary: New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, Great Smokey Mountains and Charleston (Savannah too if you have the time). Hotel recommendations on request
